There are entire sections of bookstores related to how people can feel happier. A quick glance down one aisle and you will see titles like, “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World” or “Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living”. These all aim to do one thing, unlock how to become happy. Getting a clear grasp on happiness is particularly of importance to managers and business leaders. A study by the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick found that workers who are happy are 12% more productive. And when workers aren’t happy, its costly, to the tune of $300 billion a year. But what is happiness in the context of business?
Recently founder of the Be Human Project, Eliot Frick, sat down with Happy Melly, a global network or businesses and individuals who offer strategies and advice on how to be happy at work. He gave a very enlightening definition on what happiness is, to him.
“Happiness is not so much a switch, I mean I suppose that there is an immediacy about happiness, that you can feel happy or be in a state of happiness. I also like to think of it as an overarching sense that you are developing, that you are on a path.”
