Stacy and Kate: Women on the Rise (Ep. 4)

Early in her career as a high school math teacher and coach, Stacy Taubman Since found herself in a daunting situation. The driven young women she was teaching and coaching were facing quiet crises. And it was difficult for her students to find a place to deal with their serial challenges. Adults and others who were hoping to be supportive to these young women often felt unsure of what to do as well.

Out of this challenge, Stacy started Girls Dreaming Big in 2013 to support young women in every aspect of their lives. In looking for a home for her organization. But finding a collaborative space that was encouraging for women was not an easy task. Most workplace settings were male by default. And if she hoped to nurture the growth of an organization like Girls Dreaming Big, then she would need a supportive place where other people, specifically other women, would be there to build her up.

She created a plan, established a board of advisors and gathered funding for with Rise Collaborative Workspace in St. Louis. Within just one year of founding, the group has expanded beyond their walls.

This episode traces what can be learned from someone who chose to create an intentional workspace and what the creation of a supportive and driven community can mean.
